Applicability of Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion for the West Point Treatment Plant
Author: Bill McCarthy, Gary Newman, Richard Finger, Greg Bush, Bob Butcher, Rebecca Moore

King County Wastewater Treatment Division (King County, formerly Metro) is considering implementing thermophilic anaerobic digestion at the West Point Treatment Plant (WPTP) as a means to enhance the solids digestion process. Enhancement of digestion process means improving reduction of volatile solids and/or reducing the hydraulic residence time (HRT) in the digesters. A reduction in HRT would mean a likely reduction in the number of existing digester tanks. A potential and desirable concurrent benefit of digester enhancements is the production of a Class A quality biosolid product from WPTP.
