It's True! Environmental Regulations That Can Improve Your Bottom Line

The California Source Reduction and Hazardous Waste Management Act of 1989, commonly referred to as Senate Bill 14 or SB14, requires examination of current hazardous waste generating processes for minimization opportunities and creation of a plan to implement workable alternatives. But SB14 is more than just another environmental regulation to encumber industry. In fact, SB14 (and hazardous waste minimization in general) provides generators of hazardous waste a unique opportunity to enhance the financial situation of their business. An effective waste minimization program can be established based on the goal of increasing profits. Profits rise when a company reduces the costs of production or of waste disposal, or when it increases the value of production. By complying with the requirements of SB14, many companies have found that the reduced costs and liability derived from compliance far outweigh the costs of compliance.
