Sulfide Control in Omaha and Cedar Rapids

Two midwest cities have implemented the caustic slugging technique for sulfide control on wastewater interceptors. The major problem at both cities has been excessive sulfide concentrations at the downstream ends of the interceptors. These interceptors discharge to the headworks of treatment plants, and the resulting release of hydrogen sulfide at the headworks units and primary clarifiers has caused odor and safety problems.
