Energy Utilities Cost Control: Findings from Previous Studies at Operating Treatment Plants

A major challenge facing managers of wastewater treatment plants today is cost control. More stringent effluent standards requiring energy-intensive treatment processes, coupled with ever-increasing energy costs, can make cost control a vanishing dream. With energy costs generally being the second largest item in a plant's budget, increased energy prices mean significant increases in the cost of running a treatment plant. This paper will show how an energy survey can be a useful tool in managing energy costs.
