In general, San Diego's sewage is mildly brackish. The metropolitan area's wastewater carries a relatively high total dissolved solids (TDS) content, and, as a result, only a portion is suitable for general landscape irrigation following recovery. San Diego's first major water reclamation facility is situated within the city's northern metropolitan (North City) service area. This paper deals with the issue of wastewater salinity and its impact on water reclamation and reuse in the North City area.
